Poetry & Entertainment Networking Page: Visions of Blackness
Rummaging quietly through my box of childhood Things,I came across an old doll of mine. I brushed the dust from her brown round face, And untangled her locked hair with the crafty Workmanship of my fingertips. Her beautiful browns shined brightly against her Eccentric face. For once in my life I realized that time was not an Enemy of mine, But a friend who has helped me to overcome Underlying problems of my youth. Looking into my bedroom mirror: I remmenber the nine year old girl I once knew. Why did Daddy buy me dis doll for my birthday She got black hair and black eyes And shes black all over I dont want her cause she sure ain't pretty Betta give her a name anyway Cause it would hurt daddy if I didnt play with her I'm gonna call it Eboni Cause shes ugly Just cause I named her dont mean I love her I hate her I hate looking at that ugly black thing Yeah that's what I said, "I hate looking at that ugly black thing. Who would think that twelve years later I would find my treasure hidden inside of a box I put Eboni back on the shelf for the World to admire, Many people may not know this, But, my name is Eboni too. Our Home is the Sun
The sun shines brightly Its heat is blazing Hot and fiery up on my back Turning my skin a deep dark brown It makes me say Oh yes Oh yes I'm proud to be black. Look at yourselves and see How blessed we are Our home is the sun And no man can tear that down. Copyright 1997 By Tachelle Wilkes

Material things can always be replaced. Make the best of today because life may not be granted tomorrow. Death is a part of life as living. Everyone will take that journey one day. *My prayers go out to people who lost loved ones and their homes in Princeville, Tarboro, and other parts of North Carolina. Keep God before you as things come to past.
